So as some of you know I have been putting my new machine together using a belt drive for the X axis.
It moved for the first time today and all I can say if Holy Cow!!
My opinion on drives for the Spartan project has changed to "Belts as much as possible.
The machine rapids at over 1200 ipm! and does it smoothly with a acceleration rate of 45 in/sec squared.
I will try to take some video of it running soon. I had to scavenge parts from my book machine (driver and power supply) and i am using one of my small motors on the Y axis because I did not want to deconstruct the old machine until I absolutely had to. I think I am at that point.
I am seeing some of the issues with the HobbyCNC current limit issues. I need to set it up to disable it for now.
Design of moving parts, and method of locomotion.

I wonder if there is a way to reduce the cost of the belt or chain drive? The just cost so much more than the threaded rod. Or possibly make it so it can use either drive?
