Hi i have been spending some brain time on this aproach and the only disadvantage i can see is it must be driven from both sides (no single centre lead screw as in the book). On the plus side a strong well designed gantry to give a say 4foot cut would suit most builders. You could start with a short...

I take in coments and I do like the statement that even a poor machine is by far more accurate than cutting by hand. So moving away from the above post are we ever going to get a desine-size what ever or will the discusion go on till after 2020. I have no experiance of a cnc machine only what I have...

Why is the word accuracy of cut (or motion) ever used? I do not see the point of building a low cost machine if what it produces is scrap!

Mach3 settings

Just read the book and was going to start construction till i found this site so will now hang fire. Question is if i use mach3 can you configer it to have say 1/4 inch pitch(imperial)chain on the X axis and say 10mm threaded rod (metric)on the Y
